Smokey Joe

An educational platformer played as part of a lesson plan, made at Bloc in 2010 for the BHF, that aimed to teach children about the negative effects of smoking on health and the environment. My role on this project included concept art and character/level art and design. I designed the Smokey Joe boss character, created concept art for the level select/world map interfaces and designed all unique sprites and backgrounds for the “Fashion” and “Smokey’s Lair” levels. The art style and other characters and levels were crafted by John Denton.

All characters were created in illustrator/photoshop; the backgrounds were created using a mix of photo collage and sharpen filters, to creat a unique, “ashy” style. Looking back at it now, the backgrounds are a bit too busy, making it hard to discern foreground and background during play, but I am still pleased with some of my work.
